Botswana Stock Exchange CEO, Thapelo Tsheole, has been appointed Deputy President of the African Securities Exchanges Association ( ASEA) effective immediately. Thapelo Tsheole was elected at 24th ASEA Annual General Meeting ( AGM) held this week.

Tsheole has thanked his colleagues in the continent for entrusting him with the role of working with a team of experts to transform Africa’s capital markets. “As an association, ASEA has performed tremendously well in promoting Africa as a viable investment destination and we look forward to building on that to attract issuer and investment participation, as well as develop securities exchanges to adopt international best practice. The BSE has been pursuing a strategy to expand its African and global presence and this is an important milestone in that regard,” said Tsheole, a post graduate of the highly regarded University of Cape Town.

Established in 1993, ASEA is the premier association of 27 securities exchanges serving thirty - two ( 32) economies in Africa. ASEA aims to develop member exchanges and provide a platform for networking and cooperation on areas of mutual importance. The association also aims to unlock the potential of African capital markets, and enhance the development and global competitiveness of member exchanges. In November 2019, the BSE hosted the ASEA conference for the first time in Botswana. At the same meeting, Edoh Kossi Amenounve, Chief Executive Officer of Bourse Regionale des Valeures Mobiliers ( BRVM) was elected President of ASEA.
