DUBAI: The Dubai Appellate Court upheld the ruling of the Court of First Instance jailing an Arab national for six months, to be followed by deportation after serving his sentence, and fining him Dhs15,000, on charges of assaulting a policeman with shears, damaging the windows of the police patrol vehicle, and attempting to assault an Asian farmer and a number of passers-by.

The details of the case, which took place in Al Barari area in the Bur Dubai Centre district, date back to May 2023, when an Asian farmer informed a police patrol that an Arab in an abnormal condition had tried to assault him, adding that the suspect ran after him, carrying a small knife, and tried to stab him while he was doing his work, but he managed to escape and the shears fell from him, so the suspect picked them up and continued to chase him in order to assault him and a number of passers-by in the place.

Then a police patrol came and he informed them of the incident.

A policeman reported that he received a report, so he rushed to the place, where he saw the suspect in an abnormal condition, as he was under the influence of drugs and carrying the agricultural shears in his right hand and a knife in his left.

He reportedly asked him to calm down, but he refused and threatened to kill him and asked not to approach him, and prevented him from catching him.

When the policeman allegedly tried to arrest the suspect, he assaulted him with the shears, causing him a bruise.

The suspect also damaged the windshield and side windows of the patrol vehicle using the shears.

On being questioned by the police authorities in Dubai, the suspect confessed that he had consumed Crystal narcotic substances, and during the court session he stated that he did not remember what happened because he was under the influence of psychotropic substances.
