Congress leaders discuss poll manifesto

-

NEW DELHI: The Congress Working Commitee (CWC) meeting began at the party headquarters here on Tuesday to discuss the manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections.

The meeting chaired by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge is also being attended by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders.

The manifesto commitee has already sent the drat document to the CWC for its nod. The drat manifesto carries the five ‘guarantees’ for justice -- ‘Bhagidari Nyay’, ‘Kisan Nyay’, ‘Nari Nyay’, ‘Shramik Nyay’ and ‘Yuva Nyay’. These have already been announced by Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

The CWC meeting comes ater the completion of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra that culminated in Mumbai on Saturday, the day the Election Commission announced the schedule for the Lok Sabha polls.

According to the party sources, the Congress Central Election Commitee (CEC) is also likely to meet in the evening to finalise the names of the remaining candidates for the sevenphase polls.

Meanwhile, livid over the purported stance of some of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) has unilaterally offered to support 7 Congress candidates in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, here on Tuesday.

VBA President Prakash Ambedkar has writen a leter to Kharge on the issue and the development comes two days ater the INDIA. bloc’s mega-rally on March 17 held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park here.

Referring to his brief meetings with Kharge and Rahul at the rally, Ambedkar claimed that “the MVA has been meeting continuously without inviting the VBA for any discussions or meetings”.

Separately, the Congress leaders in Tamil

Nadu are lobbying hard for their candidature for the nine Lok Sabha seats that have been allocated to it in the INDIA bloc.

The DMK and Congress finalised their seatsharing arrangement on Monday. Out of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the Congress will contest nine seats.

However, the Arani, Theni and Tiruchi seats were taken by the DMK and instead the party allocated Myladuthurai, Tirunelveli and Cuddalore seats to the Congress.
