KOCHI: The ongoing war between Israel and Palestinians has claimed the life of a Keralite, besides leaving two others from the Indian state injured on Monday, according to media reports.

Nibin Maxwell, 31, son of Pathrose Maxwell from Kollam district, was killed when an anti-tank missile fired from Lebanon struck an orchard near Israel’s northern border community of Margaliot.

His mortal remains were identified and kept in Ziv Hospital, in the northern Israeli city of Safed, official sources said.

Bush Joseph George and Paul Melvin, both from Kerala, were injured and taken to hospitals for treatment. Maxwell had arrived in Israel two months ago and was working on a farm.

The missile hit a plantation in Margaliot, a moshav (collective agricultural community), in the Galilee region in the north of Israel around 11am on Monday, Zaki Heller, spokesperson for rescue services Magen David Adom (MDA), said.

“George was taken to the Beilinson hospital in Petah Tikva ater suffering injuries on face and body. He underwent a surgery and is recovering well. He spoke to his family in Kerala, while being kept under observation.

Melvin from Idukki district, was slightly injured and is hospitalised at Ziv Hospital,” MDA said.

Israeli envoy to India Naor Gilon conveyed condolences to the family of Maxwell.

“I spoke earlier to the brother of the deceased Indian farm worker who was killed yesterday in Northern Israel. I offered my hearfelt condolences to him and the family and reassured that Israel will be by their side for anything and everything,” Gilon posted on social media plaform X on Tuesday.

MDA earlier said one foreign worker was killed and seven others were injured in the atack.

MDA said seven foreign workers were injured altogether in the atack, two of them seriously, and were taken to Beilinson, Rambam, and Ziv hospitals in their ambulances and Israeli Air Force helicopters. The Indian government on Tuesday issued an advisory for its nationals living in the border areas of Israel through the Indian Embassy in Israel to relocate to safer areas within the country due to prevailing situations.
