DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to six months in jail to be followed by deportation on charges of kidnapping an Asian and locking him up in his place of residence in collaboration with others, who are still at large, for refusing to give Dhs10,000 back to him. The verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

When the defendant, however, found that the kidnapped victim did not have any money, he told him to call another and the two men were locked up in the same place.

The case dated back to June last year when an Asian filed a complaint in which he stated that two of his friends had been kidnapped and locked up inside an apartment in Oud Al

Muteena area in Dubai.

According to the complainant’s statement, he received a call from one of the victims asking him to bring Dhs10,000 because he was locked up by the defendant. Therefore, he informed the police accordingly.

A policeman stated in the interrogations that a team of detectives went to the described building, where they saw a person trying to escape by jumping through the balcony of an apartment on the second floor, while another was trying to do the same.

They also saw the defendant and other people running away from the place when the patrol arrived. The defendant was arrested and brought with the victims to the police station, the policeman said.

The first victim said that he had a business relationship with the defendant and that the later kidnapped him in collaboration with other men, who are still at large, while he was walking near the embassy of his home country in Bur Dubai.

The defendant assaulted him and forced him to get into his vehicle and take him to his place of residence, he said.

The defendant asked him to return the Dhs10,000 he had borrowed from him some time ago, the victim said, adding that the defendant then searched him but did not find any money with him.

So the defendant asked him to contact one of his friends (the second victim) to bring the money, but as he did not bring the money with him, both of them were locked up, he said.

They were later forced to contact a third person (the complainant) to bring the money ater forcing him to sign a promissory note of Dhs35,000 in the defendant’s favour, he added.

The second victim stated that he tried to escape from the apartment through the balcony of the room he was locked up in when the police patrol arrived and saved him and his friend.
