Dallas clinch 7th playoff trip in 9 years, Galaxy triumph

san Jose: Dallas clinched a playoff berth for the seventh time in nine seasons with a 1-1 draw against the San Jose Earthquake­s on Saturday night as Jader Obrian scored in the 16th minute.

Paul Arriola of Dallas was given a red card in the 83rd minute for pushing Jamiro Monteiro in the face following a challenge. Referee Drew Fisher did not initially make the call but decided on the ejection following a video review. It was the third red card of Arriola’s career and first since 2019.

Obrian’s goal was his second of the season, his first since the opener against Toronto on Feb.26. Arriola made a centering pass and Obrian’s shot defected off sliding defender Tanner Beason and popped over goalkeeper JT Marcinkows­ki.

Arriola got his third assist in four games and team-leading sixth this season for Dallas (13-8-11).

Jeremy Ebobisse tied the score with a penalty kick in the 25th minute for the Earthquake­s (714-10). Marco Farfan was called for a hand ball on Cade Cowell’s effort.

The Earthquake­s outshot Dallas 19-9, with each team geting three shots on goal. Maarten Paes had two saves for Dallas. Up next for the Earthquake­s is a matchup Saturday against the LA Galaxy at home, while Dallas visits the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

GALAXY BEAT THE COLORADO: Led by Gaston Brugman’s two goals Saturday, the LA Galaxy beat the Colorado Rapids, 4-1.

Brugman scored his first goal for the Galaxy (12-12-7) in the 22nd minute, assisted by Samuel Grandsir. He added a goal in the 52nd minute, assisted by Riqui Puig.

The Galaxy played a man down ater Douglas Costa was shown a straight red card (violent conduct) in the 62nd minute.

Raheem Edwards and Chicharito both scored once for the Galaxy.

Sam Nicholson scored for the Rapids (10-13-9). The Galaxy outshot the Rapids 20-15, with 12 shots on goal to six for the Rapids.

Jonathan Bond saved five of the six shots he faced for the Galaxy. William Yarbrough saved eight of the 12 shots he faced for the Rapids.

The Galaxy play on the road on Saturday against the San Jose Earthquake­s, while the Rapids will host Dallas on Saturday. Elsewhere, Julian Gressel’s goal was pivotal for the Vancouver Whitecaps in a 2-1 win against the Seatle Sounders on Saturday.
