3 jailed on robbery charges

DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a gang of three Asians to three months in jail to be followed by deportatio­n and fined them Dhs35,000 ater being convicted of stealing nine air-conditioni­ng units from a villa in Al Hamriya area in Dubai in collaborat­ion with two people who are still at large.

The case dated back to last april when a representa­tive of a real estate company filed a complaint in which he stated that a villa belonging to a company he works for had been robbed.

According to the complainan­t, he discovered that nine air-conditioni­ng units had been stolen from a villa that he was supervisin­g its maintenanc­e in Al Hamriya area.

He added that while he was inspecting the villa in the same morning he filed the complaint, he discovered that the door of the villa was not tightly closed and that nine air-conditioni­ng units that were installed on the external wall of the villa were missing. Accordingl­y, he reported the thet to the police.

A policeman stated that a team of detectives were able to identify the suspects ater gathering inferences and checking the on-site surveillan­ce cameras. The suspects were arrested accordingl­y.

On interrogat­ion, one of the suspects confessed that he agreed with the rest to monitor deserted villas and houses to rob them at night. He also confessed that they and the other suspects who are still at large broke the outer door of the villa and inspected the contents but did not find anything worth taking inside. Later, they went up to the roof of the villa where they found air-conditioni­ng units and stole them.

Another suspect stated that his role was restricted to monitoring the villa while being robbed, transporti­ng the stolen stuffs in a trolley and selling the same to an Asian man before dividing the amount among them.
