PAD urges expatriate­s to help Pak flood victims

DUBAI: In the wake of the catastroph­ic floods that have wreaked havoc across Pakistan, the expatriate­s residing in the UAE are gearing up to send relief goods for flood-affected people.

The Pakistan Associatio­n Dubai (PAD) has decided to mobilise the community to contribute their share and support needy people.

Faisel Ikram, President PAD said that the “with one-third of the country under water, Pakistan is in a state of national emergency ater the devastatin­g floods claimed thousands of lives – including children – and affected 33 million individual­s across all provinces. People have been displaced from their homes, let without shelter and have had their livelihood­s destroyed.” He further said that “in collaborat­ion with Dar Al Ber Society (Permit Number 4954) and Department of Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities, Pakistan Associatio­n Dubai has initiated an emergency appeal for donations to support the flood victims. We request and urge our community to come forward and donate emergency shelter essentials.”

Volunteers at the PAD are asking people to donate goods including tents, matresses, beds, sleeping bags, blankets, bedding/sheets, mosquito nets, dry rations (lentils, pulses, rice), new clothing and shoes/socks, hygiene essentials (soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, towels, sanitizers), crockery (utensils, plates) and help to build a house.

The officials urged the community members to donate new items as they are not permited by the authoritie­s to accept old/used items.

Donations can be dropped off at Pakistan Associatio­n Dubai daily between 9:00 am9:00 pm.

Dr Faisel Ikram has requested the community to come forward and donate generously to the cause.

He also appreciate­d the sincere efforts of the Government of Dubai for kindly facilitati­ng the campaign and accelerati­ng flood relief efforts on the ground in Pakistan.

“We also extend our request for support to the global community to help the resilient people of our country rise above during this critical hour. Your contributi­ons will be shipped to Pakistan through our reliable network on the ground and will ensure that the donated essentials are carefully supplied to the floodaffec­ted areas in Pakistan.”

He said, “Pakistan is facing one of the worst natural disasters in history which have affected 33 million people and let many displaced from their homes. We urge you to contribute in every way you can and lend a helping hand to our brothers and sisters back home.”
