FUEL PRICE HIKE

Pakistan is experiencing its worst economic situation because of the coronavirus pandemic. In these difficult times, decisions made by the government to increase fuel prices may get mixed reactions from the public (“Pakistan announces a record rise in fuel prices, economy contracts,” June 27, Gulf Today).

The hike, which ranges from 27 per cent to 66 per cent depending on the petroleum product, was announced on Friday night. It drew nationwide condemnation from people on social media on Saturday. The main problem of Pakistan is that in every field there is a group of people who are behaving like the mafia.

For example, last month the government reduced the fuel prices and fixed petrol prices at around Rs74, but then the petrol mafia was in action and petrol disappeared from the market. People started protesting how the mafia was making people’s lives miserable, and demanded the government take action against them. But there was no action from the government against the petrol mafia. In Pakistan, everything goes up when fuel prices increase. But when fuel prices come down it does not make any difference to other commodities. The Tehrik-e-insaf government should take action against the mafia groups that have ruined the country.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has to fulfil his promise he made in his election campaign to the people of Pakistan that he would not spare corrupt people and will put them in jail.

The people of Pakistan want Prime Minister Imran Khan to fulfil his promise as soon as possible.
