RAK welcomes flight from Istanbul

RAS AL KHAIMAH: Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Developmen­t Authority (RAKTDA) welcomed the inaugural flight operated by Pegasus from Istanbul to Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday (Nov.28). The flight departed from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Internatio­nal Airport (SAW) on Nov.27 at 9:50 pm and arrived at Ras Al Khaimah Internatio­nal Airport (RKT) at 3:20 am on Nov.28.

The arrival of the first flight was celebrated with a water cannon salute for the aircraft and a special cake cutting ceremony attended by key figures in the aviation industry, including representa­tives from RAK Civil Aviation, RAK Airport, RAK TDA and Pegasus. The first cohort of passengers were greeted with a red carpet which was set up from the plane and a Duty-free bag upon arrival.

Engr Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, member of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah Executive Council shared, “We are proud to announce the new route between Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Internatio­nal Airport and Ras Al Khaimah Internatio­nal Airport. Ras Al Khaimah is a key player in the local aviation market, and this just one of many developmen­ts we have planned for the airport in the coming months and years.” Ras Al Khaimah Internatio­nal Airport has seen an increase in the number of inbound tourists to the Emirate from key internatio­nal markets over the past 18 months. The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has also witnessed a 5 per cent growth in overall visitor arrivals from January to October this year, with a peak of 117,995 visitors in August 2019.
