A serviceman who collaborated with three men to rob an ‘illegal resident’ was on Sunday given three years in jail plus fired from his workplace.

The Arab serviceman, 41, ganged up with the Asian creditor, 34, and the later’s compatriot technician, 34, and friend, 37, to storm the apartment of the Bangladeshi labourer, 24, in Jafiliya area at midnight on April 5 last year to commit their nefarious act.

They posed as CID officers on a mission to detain residency law violators. To cement their claim, they moved to the scene in the serviceman’s car and transported the labourer from there to another location to facilitate the nocturnal robbery.

The serviceman and creditor told him to present his identification documents. When he pulled out his wallet, the serviceman grabbed it from him and snatched Dhs4, 400 from it. The quartet had allegedly targeted several illegal residents.

During prosecution interrogations, the creditor, technician and friend confessed to their crime.

They explained how they used to direct the serviceman to illegal residents in Satwa and Jafiliya areas to detain them. He would extort money from them.

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced the three Asian men to two years behind bars plus deportation.

It sentenced the serviceman to three years behind bars and ordered that he be fired from his workplace.

The victim complained he was asleep inside the shared apartment at around 12:30am when he woke up to the door being banged. He opened and saw the creditor then the serviceman who flashed a military card and said he was a CID officer.

“He grabbed my wallet and asked me where my flatmates were. I told him they hadn’t returned. He ordered me to enter his car.

“He later dropped me beside a site under construction, returned my ID and took the wallet containing Dhs4, 400.”
