Dubai: five country men implicated in a bid to bribe a telecom employee to help them swindle 50 smartphones worth Dhs408,000 have lost the case at the Appeals Court.

A plumber and a visitor promised to reward a telecom company sales executive with Dhs15,000 if he contravened necessary procedures and gave them 50 iphones with SIM.

DUBAI: An alleged streetwalker who hired a gang of robbers to ransack a compatriot competitor’s apartment and decamp with $90,000 has lost the case at the Dubai Appeals Court.

The Asian woman –an investor, 47- embroiled in a competition wrangle with the compatriot woman. She directed robbers to the latter’s apartment, Al Barsha Police Station records showed.

They snatched $90,000 (Dhs330,000) and Samsung-5 mobile from a Russian real estate’s dealer and an iphone-7 Plus from the investor’s streetwalking competitor. The investor abetted the robbery.

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced her to two years in jail to be followed by deportation. A compatriot male trader, 30, who took part in that robbery, was awarded the same punishment.

The court convicted the trader of joining hands with fugitive men and women, to storm the apartment, brandish a knife and threaten to kill the inhabitants on May.29.2017, as per investigation records.

Both appealed the ruling. The investor argued that she was innocent. The trader said, ‘I entered with them but I did not steal. I only entered to scare victims.” The Appeals Court binned their arguments.

On the record, the Russian competitor, realty dealer and a latmate said they were inside the Jumeirah lat when they heard someone knocking on the door. On looking through the peephole they saw two women (gang members) outside.

The latmate opened to ask what they wanted. Three men pushed the door against him.

He slumped on the loor. They ordered him to remain lying down. The competitor who was at the balcony smoking, heard screams and came to see what was wrong.

They pushed her down and grabbed her mobile. They dragged the realty dealer out of a room and pushed him down too. One (the trader) brandished a knife demanding valuables. They whipped the latmate with a stick and also took his phone.

An Emirati lieutenant testiied that a police source disclosed the trader’s whereabouts.

Upon arrest, he told police the investor sought his help in raiding the lat of brothel operators who had a huge stash of money worth prostitution proceeds.

She promised him a cash reward and asked him to ind women who would knock on the door and appear in the peephole to facilitate access to the lat. They took a taxi to the scene. The women knocked and men stormed.

The trader revealed he was a mercenary in raiding apartments of lawbreakers and blackmailing them. Following this robbery, a fugitive cohort handed him a $25,000 share that he spent in his homeland.

The investor upon arrest revealed to police interrogators that following a competition wrangle with the rival streetwalker she vengefully devised the scheme and dispatched the robbers to ransack her lat.
