DUBAI: An insolvent man who resorted to gambling to earn a living has failed to convince the Dubai Appeals Court to rescind HIS DHS100,000 INE.

The unemployed Asian man, 37, must also spend three months behind bars after which he will be deported. The Dubai Appeals Court upheld the Dubai Criminal Court’s decision.

He appealed but prosecutors convinced the jury to uphold the penalty. He had organised a game at a public area in Al Qusais with the help of fugitive accomplices on Dec.8.2017.

A Yemeni policeman, 22, said he was patrolling the area when he spotted the defendant organising a gambling game in the middle of a crowd and collecting money from losers.

“I caught him. On being questioned he confessed he had arranged the game for those interested,” the policeman explained, adding that he seized a number of gambling tools.

These included six wooden dices, a cloth, a bath mug and two torches. A Yemeni police corporal, 39, who took part in the arrest operation, seconded the policeman’s account.

Prosecutors said that during further interrogations the defendant confessed and explained how he would drop some DICES IN A CONTAINER, SHAKE IT THEN LIP it on a surface.

The winner had to get similar sides of those dices facing up. The defendant revealed he had been gambling for around one year and usually made Dhs20 from each participant.

According Al Qusais Police Station records, policemen frisked the defendant and found him with Dhs270. He told investigators the seized sum was worth gambling proceeds.
