ISLAMABAD: The chief of a Punjab government-run company threatened before Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar that he would commit suicide if the salary paid to him since his appointment was ordered to be recovered from him.

Dr Nasir Javed is the CEO of Urban Planning & Managing Company. The Supreme Court heard former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif about the heavy salary package of 56 companies and hinted that the amounts their heads have got would be taken back.

The court ordered National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to make an assessment of total properties of CEOS of six companies. It asked NAB to investigate and make an assessment that how much properties these oficers own so that the public money could be recovered from them.

Responding to Dr Nasir Javed’s threat, the chief justice remarked that the court would not change its decision and told the oficer that he could do whatever he liked but the public money would be recovered from him and other oficials. Justice Nisar remarked that if any head of a company would fail to return the public money he would have to go to jail.

FORENSIC AUDIT

He also ordered forensic audit of alleged irregularities in Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI) affairs. The court barred internationally renowned PKLI chief Dr Saeed Akhtar from travelling abroad without court’s permit.

It inquired from Akhtar about the details of expenditure of Rs20 billion, which was allocated to the institution from the national exchequer. The chief justice remarked that no one would be allowed to run away from the process of accountability.
