The ADW initiative celebrations at Al Jahili Fort will invite students with special needs at the Zayed Higher Institute for Humanitarian Care on a special tour to visit one of the oldest historic sites in the UAE.

The students will be taken on a tour with a guide using sign language, which will begin by visiting the Square Fort and the Round Fort.

The tour will be then followed by a visit to the Trucial Scouts Exhibition, which showcases a collection of 32 artefacts taken from the UAE military scouts, including some of the weapons they carried, uniforms and various other utensils.

The tour will be concluded with a remarkable experience by visiting the renowned Mubarak Bin London exhibition at Al Jahili Fort.

EXHIBITION

This exhibition displays a series of black-and-white photographs documented by the British traveller Sir WILFRED THESIGER During HIS ive-years exploring the Arabian Peninsula.

The exhibition narrates the journey of the explorer – or Mubarak bin London, as he was known to the Bedouins, where he stayed almost a month hunting, riding and attending the daily gatherings by the Bedouins and His Highness Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan.

Arab Deaf Week initiative was launched in 1976 at the Arab Federation of Deaf Organisation (AFDO) conference in Damascus, and each year during the last full week of April different activities and media events take place across the Arab states to celebrate this significant initiative.

Since the first event in 1976, the initiative has successfully raised awareness to the public on diverse issues including: deafness prevention and ways of intervention, the rights of people with deafness, promotion of access to education, sign language education, and access to information technology and services.

ADW is celebrated annually at the end of April, ranging from small events like a themed exhibit in a school or local community center to a full week of events scheduled throughout a given city or country.

The activities usually feature performing artists, art exhibits, film festivals, as well as different sports competition and shows.
