Dubai Stars Sportsplex’s commitment for Deepika’s Badminton Academy renewed

DUBAI: The Dubai Stars Sportsplex has renewed its commitment to the Deepika’s Badminton Academy to launch a comprehens­ive training programme for budding shuttlers.

Dubai-based former Sri Lanka national badminton champion Sriyani Deepika runs the badminton academy.

Since making UAE her home five years ago, Deepika has been active not only as a coach but has also been competing in local tournament­s.

A regular member of the Sri Lanka team for 15 years during her impressive playing career, Deepika never officially retired as a player and kept participat­ing in the World Seniors badminton tournament­s in Canada, Turkey and Sweden.

She added another feather to her cap by winning a silver medal at the World Masters Games held in New Zealand in May, this year.

With over 15 years of coaching experience, Deepika is known as the ‘Queen of Badminton’ in Sri Lanka.

The academy, runs under the supervisio­n of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and provides training for people of all ages and levels.

Dubai Stars Sportsplex has 11 badminton courts equipped with state of the art equipment for both recreation­al and training purposes.

Additional­ly, the multi-purpose indoor facility offers plenty of sports activities and is also equipped to host major events and championsh­ips.
