Trio sentenced to 10 years for drug smuggling

DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced three Asian drivers to 10 years In JAIL AND A ine of DHS100,000 on charges of owning 5kg of drugs which they attempted to smuggle out of the UAE.

The Dubai General Directorat­e for Drug Control received informatio­n alerting them that three Asian suspects possessed an amount of drugs which they planned to smuggle out of the country.

THEY Found THE irst AND second suspects were in the transit area, clearing the exit procedures. They were summoned to THE CLEARANCE OFICE and searched but no drugs were found.

WHEN THE irst suspect’s truck was searched, three plastic bags of drugs were found in the trailer back box.

In coordinati­on with the customs oficers of THE port, THE truck was CHECKED by the X-rays, and a secret storage area was found above the driver’s seat, where 3 bags of heroin were found.

WHEN THE irst suspect was questioned, he guided the team to other amounts of drugs with the second suspect. When the latter’s vehicle was searched, drugs were found. Upon being questioned, he told the police about the third suspect whose vehicle was searched and found that it contained 5kg of heroin and methamphet­amine.

In a second case, the court sentenced a 42-year-old African businessma­n to 10 years In JAIL AND A DHS50,000 ine on charges of possessing 2kg of cocaine.

The court ordered the deportatio­n of THE DEFENDANT AND THE Coniscatio­n of the drugs.

In a third case, the Court sentenced three Asian visitors and a fourth fugitive to three years in jail, to be followed by deportatio­n, on the charges of storming a villa in the second Al Warqaa area and stealing gold, precious watches valued at Dhs800,000 and Dhs200,000.
