‘Welcome back Manushi Chhillar,’ ‘Manushi is Beauty with Brains,’ chant fans

MUMBAI: Manushi Chhillar, who broke the 16-year jinx for India at the Miss World pageant last week, received a warm welcome from fans as she arrived in Mumbai on late Saturday night.

She was greeted at the international airport here with numerous fans chanting “India, India” as they held up Indian lags AND posters of MANUSHI.

The posters read: “Welcome back Manushi Chhillar,” “Manushi Chhillar is Beauty with Brains, Miss World 2017.”

“Feels great to be back home. Thank you India, for such a grand welcome,” Manushi tweeted.

“I thank each and every one who came to welcome me. It was overwhelming and I am grateful for your support. Thank you for showering me with all your love,” Manushi said in a statement.

Manushi, who hails from Haryana, won the Miss World 2017 crown in Sanya, China, becoming the sixth Indian woman to win the prestigious title. She was in Hong Kong and London in the past week.

When Manushi walked out of the airport here, she wore her bejewelled crown proudly, waving at her fans and even obliged to take pictures with them. She had to struggle to reach her car as the shutterbugs and fans couldn’t get enough of her.

Safeguarded by ample security, Manushi managed to rush through the pool of people.

Manushi, whose family belongs to Haryana and lives in New Delhi, is pursuing her MBBS degree from the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Khanpur Kalan village in Sonepat.

A gifted poet, painter and Kuchipudi dancer, Masushi wants to be a cardiac surgeon and has been associated in a project for menstrual hygiene among women.

In less than one year, she won the ‘Miss Campus Princess’ title in the medical college in December last year. She went on to pick the ‘Miss Haryana’ title in April this year followed by the coveted Femina Miss India title in June this year.

“She had promised us that she will take a shot at winning the Miss World title. She has achieved that and we are all proud of her,” Anjali and Muskan, her co-inmates in the medical college hostel, said.

There were joyous celebrations at the home of her parental uncle, Dr Dinesh Chillar, a government doctor in Haryana, and Dr Usha Chillar, an associate professor in Dermatology in Manushi’s medical college.
