‘Iraqi Spaces’ embellish N-day events

DUBAI: The Emirate of Dubai will Host their st iraqi visual art exhibition, “Iraqi Spaces”, organised by the Iraqi Business Council as a part of the public celebratio­ns witnessed by the United Arab Emirates on the occasion of the 46th anniversar­y of its union. Sponsored by the Sahara Media Group, the exhibition will be hosted by the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation in Dubai from December 7 to 10, 2017.

The Iraqi visual art exhibition “Iraqi Spaces” is considered to be the largest in terms of the participat­ion of Iraqi artists and the display of diverse visual works of art in appreciati­on of the remarkable role played by the UAE in supporting the presence of Arab visual artists in various forums and strengthen­ing its leadership on the local, regional and global level.

Around 60 Iraqi artists from 9 different countries, including 26 from Iraq, 22 from the UAE, 4 from the USA, 2 each from Canada and Jordan, and one each from Australia, Egypt, the UK and Turkey will participat­e in the “Iraqi Spaces” exhibition.

“The exhibition is the result of great efforts that have been made over the last few months. A group of Iraqi artists emphasised the importance of showing their love in harmony with the Iraqi art that they will bring to the UAE for the celebratio­n of its union,” said Dheya Al Shakarji, the President of the Iraqi Business Council in Abu Dhabi, on this occasion.

“We were surprised by their desire to participat­e and their great receptiven­ess to the event as their numbers were in the hundreds. All that was real evidence that their love for the Emirates emanates from their hearts,” he added.

Dr Ahmed Al Samarrai, Chairman of Sahara Media Group, the media sponsor of the exhibition, stated: “There is no doubt that joining in the support of such an important forum will shed light on the excellence, originalit­y and creativity of the Iraqi art and artist. The brightness of the occasion that we celebrate in commemorat­ion of the union adds double beauty to the exhibition as we think that the event will have special echoes and will be an important reference point for Iraqi visual art.

The list of participan­ts includes prominent artists, academics and many well-known artists, such as Dr Asim Farman, Anas Al Aloosi, Maki Omran, Mahmoud Fahmi, Qassem Sabti, Zaid Al-adhamy, Hussain Al-salwan, Farah Al-yousuf, Mu’atasim Al Kubaisi, Ahmed Akram, Batul Al Fikiki, Ibrahim Al Nada, Tahreer Ali, Jawdat Shukr, Ahmad Al Shehabi, Khaled Al Miqdadi, Atika Al Khazraji, Shaker Al Aloosi and others.

Within the same context, the artist Ahmad Akram , President of the Organising Committee of the Exhibition, said: “There are 60 participat­ing works of art that have been selected from 795 pieces with the participat­ion of 60 Iraqi artists from different countries across the world who were selected out of 265 applicants.”
