Dubai Police to launch global happiness award

DUBAI: Dubai Police will today hold the second Happiness Symposium at the West-in in Al Habtoor City through which they will, among other activities, launch a Happiness Award, the irst of its kind, to be competed for globally, “by especially the police force and government agencies.”

The announceme­nt was made yesterday by the Executive Director of the Council for Happiness and Positive Energy at Dubai Police, Dr Awatif Al Suwaidi, together with the Director of Awareness and Prevention at Dubai Police, Col. Abdulla Al Khayat, in the presence of representa­tives of ive European envoys.

The invitation symposium will be held under the theme “The Future of Happiness.” It will comprise an exhibition, four workshops each running for 25 minutes, and two of each in English and Arabic.

Col Al Khayat said the meet comes under the directives of the Commanderi­n-chief of Dubai Police, Maj. General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri.

The main focus of the press conference was the internatio­nal award because of its uniqueness. Winners in ive categories will be announced early next year. “We have invited you to share your expertise because your countries, especially the Nordic, are far ahead on happiness index,” said Al Suwaidi.

In attendance were the Police Attache from the Consulate general of the Kingdom of the Netherland­s, Henny de Valk; the Consul of Norway, Jostein Korsaeth; the British Embassy Regional manager of Fiscal Crime Liaison Ofice, Steve Baker; the representa­tives of Canada as well as Germany.

Al Suwaidi said the police force all over the world have community liaison section. It is upon this we want o build and see their happiness initiative­s -what they have done to keep employees and customers happy.”

She told the envoys about Dubai Police’s Pulse of Happiness which is an internal system launched in 2015 to measure Dubai Police employees’ happiness.

The system allows employees to express their satisfacti­on with the work environmen­t, and helps management get their feedback and change what needs to be changed. Employees pick one of three options — happy, neutral or unhappy.

“I had a chance of hearing about Dubai Police’s Happiness ...last week which is very helpful in helping to identify when there is a problem for employees,” His Excellency de Valk told the Gulf Today after the press conference.
