DUBAI: A receptionist struck a policewoman’s head with shackles and battered another as they struggled to lead her into the dock, a jury heard on Sunday.

The Arab woman, 25, was referred to the Dubai Criminal Court on suspicion of assaulting a female Emirati sergeant, 34, with shackles, leaving her with contusions on the forehead, arms and legs.

She assaulted a female Yemeni corporal, 56, leaving her with a contusion on the right upper arm, a bruise on the left arm and a pale left inger, according to complaints at Al Qusais Police Station.

She threatened the two policewomen and other personnel saying, “I know a connected person in Abu Dhabi who will deal with you!” The Criminal Court adjourned the hearing till Dec.17..

The sergeant narrated that at around 3pm on Oct.4, a vehicle arrived at the police station with detainees from the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology. She refused to enter the dock.

“I and another sergeant found her lying on the ground in the vehicles’ parking lot behind the detention centre. She was shouting. I tried to talk her into accepting to enter the dock, but she continued shouting and issuing threats.

“She repeatedly issued threats. We sought the female corporal’s help in seizing her. We shackled one of her arms. She resisted and hit my head with the shackles… we ultimately tied her arms to the back.”

The corporal said she was on duty when an oficer summoned her behind the detention centre. “I found the sergeant and her colleague struggling to get the receptionist into the dock as she resisted and shouted.

“I went to talk to her. She hysterically shouted. She resisted and shackled one arm. She hit the sergeant’s head then stood up and posed a lot of resistance in restraining her, consequently injuring me as well,” said the corporal.
