Dubai: a student who master minded the kidnap and robbery of two drivers following a spate of wrangles has been imprisoned for six months plus deportation with ive Asian cohorts.

The Asian student, 18, who used a cattle prod, kidnapped the Pakistani complainant, 31, and his brother, 26, from Jebel Ali area with the help of another student, two drivers, a mechanic and a manager.

They posed as Criminal Investigations Department oficers. They thumped the complainant’s brother’s head with an iron rod. The student struck both victims with the cattle prod on various parts of their bodies.

They snatched Dhs11,000, personal cards and three mobile phones from the complainant and two mobile phones from his brother. The incident happened on Dec.1, 2016, records showed.

Records had alleged that an unemployed Iranian man took part in the robbery. However, the Criminal Court has cleared him citing uncorroborated evidence. The complainant said he was asleep inside his vehicle on a roadside in Jebel Ali when he woke up to knocking sounds on its window. He saw two men outside gesturing to him that they were CID oficers.

He suspected them as they did not show any ID. “I feared to open. I honked the horn to wake up my brother who was sleeping inside his vehicle in the vicinity, for him to talk to both men,” he explained.

“As soon as he stepped out of his vehicle, men showed up and hit him in the face…they repeatedly assaulted us with a cattle prod. They tied my arms to the back and pressed my head against the ground. “They forced us inside their vehicle’s backseat and restrained us. They blindfolded me,” he complained, adding that after the robbery, the gang dropped them in Ibn Battuta area and sped away. His brother said, “Two men posed as CID oficers and called me out. I was stepping out when they struck my head…even after dropping us in Ibn Battuta area they beat us again.”

The gang reportedly confessed during prosecution questioning. They used two getaway vehicles. Two of them watched the situation. However, they argued they stole Dhs4, 200 and ive mobile phones.
