Abu Dhabi making more running, cycling tracks

-

ABU DHABI: The Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, has developed cycling and running track extending 84,996 metres across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

This is part of civic body contribution to the comprehensive sustainability drive in line with the directives of the country’s wise leadership to ensure social welfare for the citizens and residents alike.

Latest safety techniques have been utilised in developing the routes, including the use of high quality rubber material in order to ensure safety and movement smoothness as well as providing safe crossing areas and priority signs. Cycling and walking tracks are separated or differentiated through shifting cycling tracks and in case of a joint track, the two lanes are differentiated by road markings or pavement.

As to the urban and aesthetic appearance of the project, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality adds landscaping works on the sides of all tracks.

In case the pedestrian track is on the edge of the street, directional signage will be displayed to direct pedestrians from the start of the junction.

A total of 22 running and cycling routes are now found across Abu Dhabi Island in addition to ive walks and cycling tracks across Khalifa City, Mohamed Bin Zayed City, Shakhbout City, Raha Beach and Al Falah City.
