‘TILL WE MEET AGAIN’
THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS INTO THE ALLEGED DOUBLE MURDER BY A SERVING COP CONTINUES
It was the chance discovery of bloody belongings in a skip bin in suburban Sydney that set in motion a police manhunt for one of their own and a grisly search for two young men. When police entered the Paddington home of Channel 10 star Jesse Baird on Wednesday, February 21, they were met with a scene which had them fearing the couple had met with violent deaths. Those fears were realised with devastating finality just under a week later with the discovery of their bodies on a property in Bungonia in the NSW Southern Tablelands.
Investigating police allege serving officer Senior Constable Beau Lamarre-Condon, 28, took a Glock pistol home and used it to murder Jesse, 26, and Luke, 29, a flight attendant. A neighbour reportedly heard a gunshot around 9.50am on Monday, February 19, and police have revealed a triple 0 call was made from Jesse’s phone, but it disconnected before anyone spoke.
According to police, Lamarre-Condon, who has been charged with two counts of murder, returned his weapon to a police station and used a rented Toyota HiAce van to move the bodies from the Paddington home. Channel 7 reported Jesse’s flatmates had slept there not knowing the bodies were concealed at the property. He’s alleged to have driven, with a female friend, described as an “innocent agent”, to Bungonia to dump them.
Police revealed that after several days of searching the area, including local dams, without success, they were directed to the location of the bodies by Lamarre-Condon.
Jesse’s cousin Austin Baird paid tribute to the popular TV presenter on Instagram,
describing him as someone who “cared about everyone and left such an impact on every person [he] met … I’ll love and remember you forever mate. It is an honour to be your cousin. Till we meet again,” he wrote.
NSW police are now investigating protocols around gun safety and officers removing them from the station when off-duty. They have also come under fire from some for alleging that Jesse and LamarreCondon, a former celebrity blogger, were in a relationship in the past and that the alleged murders were “a crime of passion”. Friends of Jesse’s have questioned the extent of the relationship, saying the feelings LamarreCondon had were not reciprocated. Jesse had reportedly written a text to him asking him not to contact him anymore.
Lamarre-Condon remains in custody and is due back in court on April 23.
