POSH FINALLY LETS THE PUBLIC IN ON THE JOKE AND THEY CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF HER

- • By Kylie Walters

Three months after the Netflix docuseries Beckham was released, life is very different for Posh Spice. Once known for her stoic demeanour and rarely cracking a smile, Victoria Beckham admits that the public used to keep quite a distance.

“People come up and they’re like, ‘We love the documentary,’” Victoria told the Financial Times in a new interview. “Let me tell you … They used to be scared to approach.”

While the series was focused on her husband David, 48, and his stellar soccer career, it was the fashion designer who emerged as the MVP of the show. Victoria, 49, has spent years being treated unfairly as the villain, whether as the pop star whose jet-set lifestyle was getting in the way of the sportsman giving the game his full focus or as the last reluctant Spice Girl stopping the band from getting back together.

But during the insightful series, the mumof-four let her guard down, discussing the best and worst moments of her life while showing the world her warmth.

“I remember someone showing me the front page of the newspaper, which was a gorgeous picture of David between Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé, and the headline was, ‘What would Posh say?’ Let me tell you what Posh would say, Posh was pissed off!” she declared at one point in the doco, stealing the show as she shared she had just given birth to son Cruz via C-section. “I remember lying there … don’t feel at my most gorgeous, let’s just say.”

It turns out that Victoria is much funnier than she’s usually given credit for, we just hadn’t always picked up on her quick wit and dry humour.

“It was quite liberating,” Victoria told the Financial Times. “I was very mindful that usually, when I did my filming, I would be controlling. But this was very much about David, and so I took the approach of, ‘I’m just going to be very easy-going here.’” And while she admits to never having been the biggest football fan, Victoria has found a new love for the game since David became a co-owner of Inter Miami FC.

“I never felt necessarily wanted [at the matches],” she explained. “I’m not saying this as in, poor me, but it was never the fun that it is now. Now, when we’re in Miami, I feel wanted.”

Feeling much more at ease, we may even see the return of Posh Spice. Three decades after the chart-topping girl band was formed, it’s been revealed that they are working on something special.

“I get told off all the time for announcing stuff that I’m not meant to announce,”

Mel B confessed when she stopped by

The Jennifer Hudson Show on January 25. “What I can say is we’re definitely working on something together – all five of us.”

So unlike the band’s 2019 tour which saw Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Mel B and Melanie Chisholm take to the stage without Posh, this reunion will involve everyone.

For Victoria, whose real love will always be fashion and beauty, the icing on the cake is that the self-titled fashion label she launched in 2008 is doing better then ever. It was recently revealed that her brand turned a profit for the first time in 2022.

Her success is only expected to continue to grow after she diversified from clothing, launching three perfumes in October and a shapewear line almost two years ago.

“I feel so lucky that I can create clothes that I want to wear myself,” she told the Financial Times. “I like to say to people, ‘Don’t be scared to try new things.’ It’s about taking what you’re used to, but trying something different so you don’t get stuck in a rut.”

Next she is setting her mind to turning her label into a “global fashion luxury house”. But we should also expect the unexpected.

“I’d rather get something wrong than be boring,” Victoria said.
