HEY JUDE, LOVE YOUR STORIES

- ANNE JANELLE DICKMAN Follow @facesofthegoldcoast for more local stories.

I CAN’T get enough of women doing what they were made for.

So talented. So creative. So brave and audacious!

I’m forever inspired and thrilled to see them in action.

Standing ovation for beautiful Mudgeeraba local Jude Kalman from Little Drum Pictures.

She said: “I love the craft of filmmaking and what I do. I’m passionate about it.

“I’ve worked in childcare and it taught me a lot. I admire how children gravitate to what they love and just get into it.

“It took me a while, but I found out that I love making something from nothing, so I just did it. I started to make films.

“I’m critical of my work but I remind myself to be like those kids and just go for it. “People are fascinating and I feel so fortunate to enter their world. It’s special.

“I’ve been able to use my skill set to create content for local charities and I love that it helps them.

“I’ve worked for the corporate world in the past, but it was time for me to focus on charities that needed help.

“We need to respectfully tell these stories. Video can be that platform for a narrative voice. How incredible is that?

“My dream? Bit of a pipe dream but I really do want to play a part in tackling poverty. I want to align myself with charities and social enterprises that are bold enough to do this.

“The people are incredible, and I need to expose the injustice that poverty exists. We grow up with such privilege.

“I also want to celebrate humanity because that’s important too. How cool would it be to examine the brilliance and brutality of humanity?

“So much to learn in telling balanced stories that outline the light and shade in truth telling.”

Thanks, Jude. Perhaps life really is two stories. The first is hard to ignore. It’s visible on the surface, easy to see and press record. But there’s a sub plot.

The real story is deeper and much more subtle. It’s the why, not the what. It’s the who, not the how.

The older I get, the more attuned I am to the deeper story. It stars all the same people but how different the vibration when we tune into the ‘real’.
