Harry and Meghan unlikely to stay in UK
WHILE Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan, 40, are expected back in the UK for the mourning period, they are unlikely to spend significant time there between now and King Charles’ coronation.
The pair officially left the royal family permanently in February 2021, after easing their way w out over the previous year and moving first to Canada then to the United States. The relationship between Prince Harry and the beautiful American actor was at first welcomed in the United Kingdom, with Meghan’s upbeat Californian attitude and biracial heritage considered a breath of fresh air blowing through the fusty corridors of royal power.
But the first cracks appeared shortly after their blockbuster wedding at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018, where reports emerged of a conflict about which of Queen Elizabeth’s tiaras Meghan would wear at the wedding.
She wanted to wear an emerald one; Queen Elizabeth vetoed it on the basis its provenance was unclear, and could cause a scandal. Reportedly, Prince Harry exploded at staff and told them “what Meghan wants, Meghan gets.’’ Queen Elizabeth reportedly told Harry that: “Meghan cannot have whatever she wants. She gets what tiara she’s given by me.”
The pair retained some links to the family – their second child, daughter Lilibet, was named for Queen Elizabeth when she was born in June 2021. In April, Prince Harry attended the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip.
But the interview they gave to Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 has likely spoiled any chance of ever regaining working royal titles and moving back to the UK.
