RACE 4
— MAIDEN (1100m)
Henry Famous showed some improvement at his second race start for a third in a 1060m Kilcoy Maiden on Australia Day and expect further improvement from the four-year-old.
Reg ‘N’ Kath hasn’t been far away from the prizemoney with a last-start fifth at Toowoomba a fortnight ago. Beaudesert-trained Mozart’s Muse has the home-track advantage and drops back to Maiden class after a sixth in a 1100m Beaudesert BenchMark 55 Handicap. The Robert Bartlett-trained
Arcadian Shores is also trained on the track and is coming off a last-start fifth in a Wauchope Maiden.
SELECTIONS:
2 Henry Famous, 5 Reg ‘N’ Kath, 9 Mozart’s Muse, 1 Arcadian Shores
RACE 5
— 0–60 HCP (1050m)
The Grafton-trained That’s Madness resumed from a spell for a first-up win in a 1100m Beaudesert BenchMark 55 Handicap and that win on the track will be to her advantage. The Debra Ainsworth-trained Krakatoa Eruption looks super impressive in winning an 1100m Gatton Maiden by almost six lengths on January 3 and looks like she can handle the step up in class.
Zarafet is also taking the step up in grade after her seven and a quarter lengths win in a 1060m Kilcoy Maiden on Australia Day and Smartcelli will find this easier than her latest unplaced run in a midweek Doomben Class 2.
SELECTIONS:
6 That’s Madness, 1 Krakatoa Eruption, 9 Zarafet, 5 Smartcelli
RACE 6
— 0–60 HCP (1050m)
Will’s Bid appreciated the huge drop in class last start. He was only beaten one length as favourite when fourth in an 1100m Beaudesert BenchMark 55 on Australia Day and the gelding has a great chance here with the winkers going back on. Kaoru King was a winner two starts back in a Sunshine Coast BenchMark 62 Handicap and then wasn’t far away when fifth in a Gold Coast 3YO Handicap. Blaine will be fitter for a first-up second in an 1100m Beaudesert BenchMark 55 Handicap on Australia Day and Phony
Pony is coming off a win in an 800m Warwick Maiden on Boxing Day.
SELECTIONS:
1 Will’s Bid, 4 Kaoru King, 7 Blaine, 6 Phony Pony
RACE 7
— CLASS 1 (1400m)
The Michael Costa-trained Euro
Hustler scored a narrow last-start win in a 1310m Ballina Maiden and should be competitive again with natural improvement. Surface To Surface should will handle the wet conditions as he is a half-brother to La Montagna who won the 2006 Stradbroke Handicap on a rain-affected surface so expect improvement. Dulcie Tie is fitter for two runs back from a spell, her latest a fourth at the Sunshine Coast and has a win on a heavy track on her record. Elysia broke through for her Maiden win on this track three starts back and has wet-track form.
SELECTIONS:
1 Euro Hustler, 5 Surface To Surface, 8 Dulcie Tie, 9 Elysia
