CR LA CASTRA? NO WAY

A former Neighbours co-star of city councillor Bob La Castra says he can’t believe the man he worked with is now a council politician

NEIGHBOURS bad boy businessman star Stefan Dennis has opened up about his wild youth on the Gold Coast and time on set with city councillor and ex-actor Bob La Castra.

At a Logies launch this week, Dennis told ATG he couldn’t believe La Castra was now a distinguished councillor.

“We used to work on the same show together (Neighbours), he did the smart thing: went into politics,” Dennis says.

When asked if there was any indication Cr La Castra would be a respectable baby-kissing politician that he is today, Dennis laughs.

“Sh*t no – I didn’t see it anyway,” he says.

Based in Melbourne, Mr Dennis spent his early years growing up in Southport and Labrador. “When I moved out of home I did the big move to Surfers Paradise,’’ he says.

“The first place I lived was Paradise Towers which is still standing, and it was the only highrise in Surfers Paradise in the ’60s.

“I tell you what, some naughty stuff went on in there though.”

He wouldn’t elaborate. “To give you an idea there were five guys and one girl in a two-bedroom apartment.”

Now Mr Dennis the soap star hits the Glitter Strip for tamer adventures. “Every time I come here I look at the surf and go ‘Oh, I used to surf five days out of seven’. I haven’t done it for a long time but I guess it is like riding a bike, isn’t it?”

Cr La Castra said he was so inspired by Logies buzz that he wants to dip his toe back into showbusiness.

“I might be writing something,” he says.

Always a star, Cr La Castra says he will be ready for his Logies moment.

“Whatever I wear it will be good,” he laughs. “I’ll make sure everyone knows I’m there. Absolutely, I never walk into a room and have people not know I’m there, absolutely.’’

I tell you what ... some naughty stuff went on there
