Marathon races to nab sponsors

-

GOLD Coast Marathon organisers have raced to secure sponsors ahead of the major event in July with three longterm sponsors extending their agreements and a Surfers Paradise landmark becoming the official hotel.

Last year’s event busted a number of records.

More than 100,000 visitor nights were generated, fuelling a $28.5 million injection into the city economy during the marathon weekend.

The 2018 event’s visitor nights were up 25 per cent on the 81,302 in 2017 while the economic impact was $3.5m up on the $25m bonanza last year. Participation also increased with about 27,000 taking part, up on 24,092 the previous year.

Organisers have announced that ASICS, a partner of the marathon for more than 20 years, has renewed its sponsorship for another three to become the event’s longest serving sponsor.

ASICS will retain naming rights sponsorship of the ASICS Half Marathon and the ASICS Sport & Leisure Expo as well as being the supplier of official event footwear and apparel.

Meanwhile, Garmin has been revealed as the official timepiece of the 2019 marathon along with confirmation that it will once again have naming rights sponsorship of the 4km and 2km children’s races.

Endura has also extended its tenure as the official sports nutrition provider of the event with a three-year agreement.

And the Gold Coast Marathon has a towering new sponsor with the QT Gold Coast also inking a three-year sponsorship agreement to become the official hotel of the internationally-acclaimed road race.

Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart welcomed the announcements.

“It a hugely exciting day for us with the signing of these long-term agreements straight after a positive start for participant numbers,” Mr Hart said.

“These early commitments by world-leading supporters augur well for another record-breaking year for our truly iconic event,” he said.
