Fur real? Pet heal powers claimed

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

BARBARA Jackson is adamant she isn’t kitten around when she claims to be able to cure cancer, heal injuries and fix behavioural problems with your cat or other pets — just by channelling energy through her hands.

She uses Reiki, a Japanese method of “energy healing’’, which she says is attracting pet owners who can’t afford traditional vet care.

“People come to me when the vets are too expensive or the vet has told them they can’t help,” she said, adding her Reiki Animal Healing business was gaining popularity after starting late last year as residents looked for alternative therapies.

She says she started off by practising on stray cats and now claims to be able to shrink tumours and mend fractures through laying on of her hands, but says she can also work off photos for long-distance jobs.

Gold Coast vets urged pet owners to be cautious.

Dr Rich Seymour at The Vet Collective at Miami said there needed to be scientific evidence to support the claims made about alternative treatments.

“The concern with alternative treatments is where people will claim these things are effective based on any number of things that haven’t been scientifically proven,” he said. “More often than not what they’re doesn’t work.

“Treatment is infinitely expensive if it doesn’t work.”

But Ms Jackson says she gets results for considerably lower fees.

“One lady came to me and said the vet had said it would be $6000 to fix the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in her dog’s hind leg. I can fix that for $100,’’ she said.

“I have many people come to me from emergency vets because they’re more expensive and you have to pay upfront, which people can’t afford.’’

Ms Jackson claims to be able to heal animals through Reiki. She claims she can shrink tumours, mend broken bones, fix behavioural problems and other injuries.

“I’m channelling energy. I can use different frequencies through my hands and I use a healing frequency to heal things,” she said.

“Animals need to have a few healings — four or five times to benefit.

“It sounds unbelievable, but it does work.”

Ms Jackson said she has been healing through photographs for people from cities around Australia.

“I want more people from around the Gold Coast because I can do hands-on treatment which is more effective. It works a lot quicker and animals really like the Reiki energy,” she said. claiming
