Helen’s luck set to change

- TOM HACKETT

LUCK has not been on the side of trainer Helen Page during the current racing season but the enigmatic Dynastic is well-placed to kick start her season at the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Page, a three-times premier Gold Coast trainer, has only had the one winner – Raillier at Ipswich on August 18 – since the new racing season started on August 1 but there is no doubt the stable is going much better than that record suggests.

Five of Page’s past nine runners have been placed and, with a hint of luck, her strike rate would be right up there with the best trainers in the state.

Dynastic’s last run in the Class 2 Handicap at the Gold Coast on September 15 was the perfect example of the spate of bad luck.

Anthony Allen took Dynastic straight to the front in the early stages of the contest but he was bothered by Hank Scorpio and Dynastic was forced to work hard the entire way.

Dynastic still managed to respond when he was asked for an extra effort and he looked like the winner when he hit the front at the top of the straight, but he was run down in the shadows of the post by Ecker Road and Auerbach.

Hank Scorpio, the horse that went with him in the early stages, knocked up badly late and was beaten by more than eight lengths.

Allen should be able to get a much softer lead on Dynastic today and the Love Conquers All gelding does look the class runner.

Dynastic will be Page’s only runner at the Gold Coast today but the popular trainer has included Addicted and Too Easy Bro in the acceptances for the Ballina races tomorrow.

Addicted has joined the Page stable after starting his career under the care of Gwenda Maxwell in NSW and he impressed in a recent barrier trial.
