Reserves overcome slow start

In what seemed to be a common theme in the round of Reserves matches, Warragul Industrial­s as the fancied team made a slow start against their lower ranked opponents in Neerim-Neerim South.

Trailing by six points at quarter time, the Industrial­s kicked into gear to boot 13 goals while keeping the Cats to two behinds, scored in the final quarter, to comfortabl­y win 13-19 (97) to 1-6 (12).

Steve Mallon booted five goals, while Drew Davey, Tom Turner, Scott Lindsay, Tom Commadeur, Jackson Perry and Alex Kubale also led the charge after the first break.

Mathew Cumming, Heath Strating, Thomas Slate, Jack Erickson, Jayden Bell and Kane Woolstencr­oft helped the Cats compete early.

Eagles win battle of birds

Ellinbank comfortabl­y accounted for Buln Buln.

While Ellinbank trailed at the first change after registerin­g just two behinds in the first term, the Eagles restricted their opponents to just one more goal for the remainder of the match as they took control.

The Eagles kicking seven goals themselves to win 7-10 (52) to 2-3 (15).

Daniel Burke, Neale Parke, Andrew Quirk, Dale Armstrong, James Scammell and Ashley Scott helped Ellinbank overcome their slow start.

Jeremy Jagoe, Paul Pratt, Ashley Bridger, Matthew Pearson, Matthew Burdett and Jarrod Castle were the better players for Buln Buln.

Tigers scratch Magpies

A fast start helped Lang Lang account for Poowong, 7-8 (50) to 4-7 (31).

The Tigers booted four goals to one in the first quarter, which proved the difference in the end as both sides registered three majors from that point.

Felix Dunn and Williams Wykes combined for six of Lang Lang’s seven goals. Tim Bramall, Tim Elmes, Brendon Boulton, Ryan Floate and Mark Hunter helped the Tigers make a good start.

Matt Loughridge, Kyle Aitken, Steven Bromby, Chris Wilson, Harrison Morgan and Thomas Rogers helped the Magpies work their way back into the contest.

Crows thump Saints

Longwarry thumped Nyora, 23-11 (149) to 14 (10).

The Crows stormed away from the Saints after quarter time, slamming home eight goals in each the second and third quarter to set up the percentage boosting win.

Paul Williams, Peter Harrison, James Daly, Harley Jones and Glenn Browney led the charge towards a mammoth Crows score, while Ryan Wouters, Dylan McLaren and Anthony Salce were also prominent.

The Saints managed a final quarter consolatio­n goal through Adam Jamieson. Matthew Murtagh, Rick Jordan, Robert Malberg, Brett Kelly, Matt Layton and Mitchell Boyd also battled against the odds.

Blues too strong

Catani proved too strong for Nilma-Darnum, overcoming an early scare to win 16-11 (107) to 4-7 (31).

Heading into the first change trailing by seven points, the Blues took control to register 15 goals to two for the remainder of the contest.

Lachlan Pratt and Brendan Green kicked seven goals between them, while William Temby, Daniel Keily, Mitchell Gregson and Drew Campbell also helped the Blues arrest their early form slump.

Travis Dyke, Liam Van Eyk, Malcolm Hunter, Thomas Williamson, Sean Viotto and Ben Giles led a spirited effort from the Bombers.
