Duo offer Spanish spirit
The spirit of Spain will be on offer at Wesley of Warragul when awardwinning pianist Nicholas Young joins renowned guitarist Matthew Fagan in “Espana - El Vito”.
Combining musical passion and virtuosity, the performance will take place on Saturday, June 2 at 8pm.
The duo will bring together the traditional flamenco elements of Spanish guitar with the concert masterpieces of composers Isaac Albeniz Manuel De Falla, Joaquin Rodrigo in stunning new arrangements.
The great concert music of the Spanish piano masters Albeniz and Granados are reinterpreted exploring the exhilarating flamenco guitar techniques of Paco De Lucia and Paco Pena blending with virtuoso concert piano.
A highlight of “Espana - El Vito” will be a world premiere of Egberto Gismonti piece “Frevo Rasgado” reinterpreted for concert piano and 10-string guitar with stunning rhythmic drive and orchestration.
Born in Sydney and currently based in Melbourne, pianist and Young Steinway Artist Nicholas Young has regularly concertised throughout Australia and Europe.
He appeared as soloist with the Vienna International, West Australian, Queensland, Adelaide and Willoughby symphony orchestras.
Matthew Fagan has long been established as one of Australia’s finest exponents of the guitar. He has toured with Billy Connolly, The Buena Vista Social Club, Shirley Bassey, Natalie Cole and Michael Crawford.
Matthew’s virtuosic rendition of Bach’s famous “Toccata in D Minor” featured on ABC TV.
Matthew has performed in more than 120 countries as a soloist, with orchestra and bands.
Matthew will launch the single “El Vito” at the Warragul concert which will feature on his first vinyl release, also titled "El Vito", later this year.
Tickets to “Espana - El Vito” at Wesley of Warragul are $35 for adults, $30 for concession, $25 for members and groups, and $20 for under 18s.
