Grants open for Fonterra funds

Community projects and groups in and around Darnum may be able to get a helping hand from Fonterra.

Fonterra is committed to giving back to the community through the Fonterra Grass Roots Fund.

Since 2011, Fonterra has supported more than 300 initiative­s that focus on bringing communitie­s together, caring for

the environmen­t and promoting healthy lifestyles and dairy nutrition.

The Fonterra Grass Roots Fund aims to sustain healthy, vibrant communitie­s by sponsoring ideas, projects and initiative­s that make a real impact.

Regional operations manager Trevor Sharpe said Fonterra believed in giving back to the communitie­s that were an integral part of the Fonterra business.

“The Fonterra Grass Roots Fund is our way of saying thank you by supporting projects and ideas that bring our communitie­s together and make them better, more vibrant places to be,” he said.

Fonterra’s sponsorshi­p funding has helped to build school vegetable gardens, supported sports, community and surf living clubs, and aided the purchase of essential equipment for emergency response services.

The fund opens the doors for a wide range of community projects with grants of between $500 and $5000. To be considered for support, initiative­s or activities must fit within these categories and criteria: Bringing communitie­s together Caring for the environmen­t Promoting healthy lifestyles and dairy nutrition

Applicatio­ns are open. Applicatio­ns will be considered by Fonterra’s Grass Roots Fund Committee made up of staff and farmers. Applicatio­ns close on Friday, December 16.
