Drouin

Conditions for Saturday’s stableford were surprisingly good.

There was plenty of surface slush Don Thomson would certainly have played in gumboots like the old days - but there was some run in the fairways and the greens were true.

The sun also made a welcome appearance after days of hibernation.

Peter Daniel showed what could be done when he won A grade with 38. Battling a knee problem that will eventually need surgery, he had 19 on both nines for a pleasing result.

In B grade the winner was Jonathon Coombs with 39. He arrived complaining when carts were disallowed. He left smiling with a win.

Down the line balls to Hayden Smart 37, Damian Bibby 36, Dean O’Brien 35, Warren Cook 35, John Piner 35, Graham Rawson 34, Mick Lithgow 34.

On Wednesday only a small field braved the elements.

Runaway winner was 11 times club champion Shane Dwyer with 37.

It came at a cost though, as he lost the car keys. He was not really bothered though, as they belonged to son Liam.

Down the line balls Ken Cooper 35 and Tony Appleby 35

This Saturday is stableford.

Garfield

After 25mm of rain during the week golfers were confronted by a very icy Saturday morning, which turned into a great sunny afternoon.

A field of 73 faced the starter for a par event which proved a very tough ask in the heavy conditions as only nine golfers were able to score better than par.

The best for the day was president Peter Scott, who went around in plus four to win the event and C grade, playing off a mark of 25.

Grant McKay returned to form by scoring plus three, playing of 13 to win A grade whilst Garry Scholes did best in B grade with plus three as well.

On Thursday life member Peter Johnson continued a great recent form surge by winning the stableford event with a score of 37 points.

Captain Mick Neylan also scored 37 points.

Peter was able to finish his round brilliantly by paring the last four holes, winning by count back.

Peter also took out the secret nine giving him a month to remember. Peter’s wife Robin is now looking forward to a very nice night out to celebrate.

Peter’s regular playing partner Eric Harvie also had a nice round with 34 points enough to win the second division.

Unfortunately another member has passed with the loss of Cheryl Lewis last week. We have lost a true and dear friend in Cheryl whom was women’s secretary in 1987, 88 and 89.

Cheryl loved representing the club in pennant and bowls tournaments. Her kindness and gentle nature will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The club sends its sincerest sympathy to Donna Horvath, Craig Lewis and their families.

The match committee has clarified conditions and eligibility criteria for the Kelly 4BBB Challenge.

This and other additional event information is now available by checking the club notice board or by speaking directly to any member of the match committee as listed in the member’s handbook.

The leader board for this event is also available for viewing at the club.
