Willaura challenge set

-

This year’s Willaura Farm to Pub run, ride and walk to raise money for beyondblue will return to ‘Sandy Lane’.

Sandy Lane provides an off-road adventure for participants in 16-kilometre and 8.5-kilometre events.

The February 25 event, as in past years, will feature a 16-kilometre run or ride, an 8.5-kilometre run or ride, and a five-kilometre walk.

In 2016 almost 200 people took part in the event and organisers are hoping for even more participants in 2017.

From its humble beginnings in 2003 as a challenge between extended members of the Joyce families, the event has developed into a widely supported community event and fundraiser for beyondblue.

This year the five-kilometre walk will be on sealed roads and the 16km and 8.5km events on some sealed sections, and an offroad adventure at Sandy Lane.

All ages and levels of fitness can enter, and organisers are encouraging people to visit Willaura to enjoy an afternoon of sportsmanship and friendly competition.

A free bus will be available to take participants to their starting points. People keen to use the service should book a seat with their entry.

Entries close at 5pm on February 21. Entry is $15 for adults, and 15 and under $5.

Organisers will accept entries for all categories on race day, however, they will not record running times or provide official records.

A free jumping castle and live music at the pub are designed to add to the festival atmosphere.

Willaura Pool will also be open for anyone wishing to have a dip.

Counter meals and a barbecue will be available on the night.
