GEORGIE BOWDEN MATT LEVI

One evening in Sydney, in 2012, Georgie and Matt both had a late-night food craving and ended up at the iconic 24hr City Extra Restaurant in Parramatta. It was there they first crossed paths, and they soon fell in love. Three years later, on Georgie’s birthday, after Matt had returned from active duty overseas, he popped the big question. He got down on one knee in front of the Sydney Opera House and Georgie said ‘yes’ before he even had the chance to ask — despite previously insisting she never wanted to get married. Being new to Darwin, neither bride nor groom had family in town, so their guests flew in from around Australia and as far away as Hungary and the UK. “It was awesome having everyone in the one room laughing, eating and celebrating with us,” Georgie said. But as is often the case with wedding days, it was not without its hiccups. “Half the family got taken to the Botanical Gardens instead of The Esplanade by good ol’ Darwin taxis,” Georgie said. “We had to stall the ceremony until a few mini buses could pick them up again.” The pair had their first dance to Everlong by the Foo Fighters. “It cut out several times but, ever the professionals, we kept swaying,” Georgie said. The pair is yet to head off on honeymoon, and Georgie has refused to change her surname until Matt whisks her away somewhere.
