Victory a huge lift: Guilhaus

I have crossed off the following 6 numbers NIGHTCLIFF ruckman Seb Guilhaus admits the Tigers loss to Wanderers last week was traumatising although it gave his side added motivation to turn their fortunes around.

Guilhaus – based in South Australia – played a crucial role in clearing the ball from stoppage situations during the Tigers 12-point victory over Southern Districts yesterday.

The big man said the Tigers loss in the opening week of the semi-final series cut deep.

“It was bit scary after the loss last week,” he said.

“We beat Wanderers all year and to come out and lose, that gave us familiar feelings from the last few years.

“Everyone was saying we don’t play good finals footy. We needed to get this win, it’s boosted us back up and has given us belief.”

Guilhaus said the message was clear on what football needed to be played from coach Troy Coates.

“The only cues we had were, don’t muck around with short hands and don’t muck around with short kicks – it’s about getting distance,” he said.

“If you kick the ball, it’s very rare you are going to get a mark, especially a high mark. Distance is what matters in this weather.”

Attacking the football with vigour was the key to the Tigers’ success, according to Guilhaus.

“It’s inch-by-inch with this sort of footy and I felt a few of our younger players and a few of our fly-ins like Jason Cole and Ben Clifton relentlessly attacked on the ground and wanted it more,” he said.

“That’s what wins these games, especially in those conditions.”
