FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK:

-

While the CMC drivers provide high-level entertainment for the crowd, as a club, we actually have a pretty low-level approach to things. The club is made up of people from all walks of life. Whether they are engineers, IT specialists, mechanics, small-business owners, or something else, there are two things everyone has in common: they want to race cars, and they want to have a good time. The number-one guiding principle for the club is to have fun, so people know what they are signing up for when they join. Although we’re called Central Muscle Cars, CMC has become a national club, with membership from both North and South Islands, and while we mostly race in the North Island, we venture to the South Island every second year to race and to pay respects to our loyal fan base there. Each Saturday, after the racing is done for the day, everyone gathers together for a barbecue to share stories from the weekend, haggle about the pros and cons of Ford v. Chev, or just have a laugh. There is also a small prize-giving, where the winners receive a chocolate fish for their efforts on track or for any other outstanding feat. Perhaps unlike other racing fraternities around the country or the globe, at the end of the day, we are just a club of like-minded people who race cars and have fun along the way. Yes, it’s true that because of what we do, we get invited to some reasonably high-profile race meetings, and we always turn it on for the crowd. However, deep down, it’s a sense of selffulfilment, the feel-good factor, the adrenalin rush, and the knowledge that you are driving a cool car to its maximum potential around a race track that win out. CMC — coming to a track near you soon!
