SUZI QUATRO ‘HOW I’VE SURVIVED LOCKDOWN’

-

‘MY HEART AND SOUL (I NEED YOU HOME FOR CHRISTMAS)’ IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD NOW VIA ALL DIGITAL PLATFORMS

No-nonsense, ballsy and bad-arse, Suzi Quatro remains one of the music industry’s true trailblazers.

Since bursting onto the international stage in the 1970s, with hits including ‘Can the Can’ and ‘Devil Gate Drive’, both she and her trademark leather catsuit have been elevated to icon status. And while she says she never set out to be a “pin-up”, these days the musician is more than happy to be sexy at 70.

“I’m OK with it now!” Suzi tells New Idea. “Did I go up on stage and try to be sexy? No. But whatever it was that I had – that I have – is a natural thing. That’s the only way I can explain it. That it was ‘sexy’ to people, well, that’s just a lucky extra!”

This workaholic coped with months of lockdown by recording music, including a Christmas single called ‘My Heart And Soul (I Need You Home For Christmas)’.

“I’ve survived lockdown by being extremely creative,” she explains. “My son and I were in the studio working on our next album, and it just happened by accident. I’ve never written a Christmas song before, but here it is!”

Though in her eighth decade, when we bring up the subject of retirement it’s evident Suzi is far from ready to hang up her catsuit.

“As long as I can create and have something to say, I will continue,” says the rock legend.

Right now, Suzi’s determined to stay positive, despite the challenges that have come with COVID-19.

“I’m a glass half full kinda person,” says Suzi. “There is light at the end of the tunnel. I will rock’n’roll on stage again. Nothing and nobody will keep me down!”
