A feud erupts between Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman

AVOIDING EACH OTHER AT YET ANOTHER INDUSTRY EVENT, TENSIONS APPEAR TO BE GROWING BETWEEN MARGOT ROBBIE AND NICOLE KIDMAN

Both hit the red carpet at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York wearing sparkling sequinned frocks. But the Aussie stars did little to quash bubbling rumours of a feud, with the pair avoiding each other throughout the night. ‘All the Aussies in Hollywood are a tight bunch. It’s like a little club,’ a source tells New Idea. ‘To have two of the biggest Aussie stars in Hollywood at the same event not even exchange pleasantries is unheard of.’ Having relied on fellow Aussies such as Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts and Russell Crowe to get her through the hard times, Nicole, 50, says it’s important for Australians in Tinseltown to have each other’s backs. ‘We’re very protective of each other, because we’re from a smaller country in a bigger world. We get each other’s humour, and we help each other,’ she says.

But those niceties don’t appear to extend to 27-year-old Margot Robbie. Event insiders told New idea that Margot and Nicole stayed well clear of each other, avoiding all opportunities for a joint photo.

‘Photographers would have loved to get a snap of them together, but they couldn’t even get them on the same side of the room, let alone in the same frame!’ says an onlooker.

Tellingly, this isn’t the first time the duo have dodged each other in public, with the pair also freezing each other out at the HFPA & Instyle Toronto Film Festival event in September.

Having been dubbed ‘the next Nicole Kidman’, Margot is on the fast track to supersede her fellow Aussie’s illustrious career, with the former Neighbours star already gaining Oscar buzz for her depiction of ice skater Tonya Harding in biopic I, Tonya.

Of course, this could lead to a very awkward awards season, with talk Nicole is set for her own nomination for two standout roles in The Killing Of A Sacred Deer and The Beguiled.

‘Whatever beef these two have with each other, they better put it behind them – at least publicly,’ says the insider. ‘Because feuding with a fellow Oscar nominee is never a good look, especially one from your own country!’
