Inside Out (Australia)

More than meets the eye?

When it comes to shelving, I think you’re either out and proud, or not quite ready for that. And that’s fine. We’re all about equality here at Inside Out. I, for one, am the kind of person who keeps their toaster and kettle neatly packed away in the cupboard, a completely clean and clear benchtop being the ultimate goal (I often stash the dishrack, too). No-one needs to see the inner workings of my life unless, of course, it’s the beautiful bits and bobs I display proudly in my dining area.

And that’s where some people come unstuck. The way you display your precious items is quite personal, and readers often ask us where they should start. So, this month, we issued some of our favourite stylists a challenge: we wanted them to turn up, choose from our selection of gorgeous pieces and work their magic, right there on the spot. Turn to page 36 to see how different (and sometimes similar) they turned out! They also share a few tips for those playing at home.

This issue, we’ve also tackled the age-old question of budget. No matter what the number is, the trick is to make it work for you. Spend where it matters, tighten the belt where you can, or even think about saving on something now that could be upgraded later. Shannon can give you some help with all this on page 46. You can also read more about trying your hand at upcycling in the renovation space on page 114. Are you clever at juggling your budget? We’d love to hear your tips and tricks. You can email me at claire@insideout.com.au.

PS. Winter is here, team. Make like a Night’s Watchman and bake yourself a fruity pie to keep the chills at bay. You’ll find three delicious options on page 140.
