Prince cheered for Canada in 2010

A Vancouver swimmer who met Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Thursday says Prince William told him that he cheered for Canadian athletes during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

“ He mentioned how very excited he is for London 2012 [ Summer Olympics],” Callum Ng, 26, said in an interview from Ottawa. “ He did say that when he was watching the [ Vancouver] Olympics he was cheering for Canadians.”

Ng was one of 120 young Canadians invited by the federal government to attend a reception at Rideau Hall with the royal couple.

“ They’re cool people. That was honestly my first impression,” said Ng, who served as Canada’s ambassador at the first Summer Youth Olympic Games in July 2010.
