‘Bucket’ boy dodges big Deano

Sonny Bill v Jonah. It will be great if Dean Lonergan and David Higgins can pull off a successful rejuvenation of the Fight for Life concept with that headline bill this December. But, sadly, one bout that won’t eventuate at the charity boxing event is Lonergan himself against Truth newspaper scribe John ‘‘Bucket Boy’’ Matheson. Lonergan called out Matheson on radio late last year after getting sick of the latter’s chest-beating claims to be a boxing expert. ‘‘Get in the ring,’’ was big Deano’s call. Matheson’s ego compelled him to say ‘‘yes’’ but since then he has been missing in action. More’s the pity as there would have been a host of sports stars queuing to pay premium prices for ringside tickets.
