Wild about Gayle bid

- BY CLIVE HETHERINGTON

NEWCASTLE striker Dwight Gayle will be targeted for a return to West Brom if Chris Wilder is named Baggies boss.

The former Sheffield United manager faces the prospect of a rebuilding job in a bid to lead relegated Albion back into the Premier League.

Gayle is understood to be on Wilder’s Hawthorns wish list after hitting 24 goals for West Brom on loan two seasons ago.

Newcastle have yet to confirm whether Gayle – due to become a free agent this summer – signed the new three-year contract he was offered before Easter.

Rafa Benitez, when Toon manager, bought Gayle for £10million five years ago.
