Spurs eye Johnstone

- BY JOHN RICHARDSON

TOTTENHAM are ready to make a bid for West Brom’s England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone after a number of spying missions.

But Johnstone, who began his career at Manchester United, won’t come cheap, with West Brom likely to want more than £20million.

Johnstone, 28, stayed with the relegated Baggies for their Championship campaign, but is eager to play in the top flight again to help safeguard his place in the Three Lions squad.

He is anxious to add to his two senior caps and knows a prolonged spell outside the elite league could count against him.

Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris’s contract is up at the end of the season and Spurs – looking for a longterm replacement – have had Johnstone watched in all his Championship games so far this term.
