MORE INJURY WOES FOR CELTIC AS COLBY CROCKED

CELTIC starlet Colby Donovan was stretchered off with an ankle injury and carted off to the hospital in an ambulance during Scotland Under 21s’ narrow win last night in Gibraltar.

But manager Scot Gemmill is hopeful the injury isn’t too bad after goals in each half from James Wilson and Taylor Steven gave the young Scots victory against the minnows who they hammered 12-0 last month in Dundee.

Gemmill said: ‘I don’t know the full extent of it. I just know he was taken to the hospital because the ambulance was here.

‘So it’s a case of wait and see, but he’s in good spirits and hopefully it was just precautionary.

‘It’s my understanding the injury was around his ankle area.

‘To get the clean sheet in those conditions with the right attitude and mentality is pleasing.

‘You’re always one mistake from trouble and there were mistakes in the game and we couldn’t move the ball as quickly as we did in the home game.

‘I understand people will say it was only against Gibraltar, but I thought we showed good discipline to see the game out.

‘Romania on Tuesday night will now be a massive game for us.’

Celtic will be sweating about any possible new injury for Donovan as they are already without key right-back Alistair Johnston, with Tony Ralston also just back from injury.

This was a real slog for Gemmill’s side against a team who followed up that heavy defeat in Scotland with an 11-0 home thrashing from Portugal.

But Hearts ace Wilson converted a pass from Celtic kid Kyle Ure to open the scoring before Steven finally ended the storm-lashed contest late.
