‘O’neill is Hoops’ best chance of six-in-a-row’

Lubo Moravcik has hailed the permanent appointment of Martin O’neill as Celtic manager.

O’neill has agreed a one-year deal and will look to build on the outstanding achievement of leading the club to the domestic double last month. Hoops legend Moravcik played under O’neill 26 years ago and is certain he can bring more success to Parkhead.

The Slovakian told The Sunday Post: “After the success of last season, he deserved the right to make that decision on his future.

“It’s a massive call but definitely the right call for Celtic. He was the best available candidate.

“He knows Celtic inside out and knows how to handle the constant pressure of working in Glasgow and coping with the huge demands of delivering trophies.

“When he was my manager 25, 26 years ago, I just loved working under him. He brought the best out in me.

“He still has that ability and you could see the current squad respond positively to him in the final months of the season.

“Celtic had an uphill task but Martin made sure he got the very best out of the players. It turned out to be an incredible campaign but the hard work has already started all over again.

“His management skills are second to none. He will want new players in as quickly as possible and rightly so. The sooner they arrive and bed in, the better.

“That will give the club the best possible chance of making it six-in-a-row.

“I think Martin can do it because he is a winner.”
