‘Theories of Change’ links sports and education
dubai — A panel session titled ‘Theories of Change’ was hosted at the Indian Consulate recently that focused on how a combination of sports and education can be utilised to develop future pathways for children. The discussion emphasised the importance of striving for excellence, and ‘dreaming big’.
The panellists were Randy Stevenson, head of Corvuss American Academy; Rema Menon, Director, counselling point; Kunal Maria, CEO of Corvuss American Academy; Prem Ramachandran, CEO of White Water; and Manupriam Seth, architect, educator and founder of Urban Sketchers.
The Consul-General of India, Vipul, in his welcome address said that the panel session is a positive step to enlighten parents and educators on educational innovation and the need to enable children to reach their full potential both academically and athletically. He also emphasised on the importance for parents to understand the abilities and passion of their children, and then actively help them excel. “Every child is different and has capabilities and strengths that are unique. As a community, we Indians tend to focus on the academic prowess of the individual alone. Forgetting that often times a personality and character is defined by a child’s passion to pursue something. The unique characteristics and interests of every child must be given wings,” he said.
According to Stevenson, it is crucial to allow students to pursue their passion and interests to increase their learning and success. “At Corvuss American Academy
student athletes strive for excellence both academically and in the sport of their choice. By providing a fully harmonised curriculum, student athletes are able to pursue their dreams and follow their passion as they grow and develop.”
Students, parents and teachers who attended the panel session asked questions, sought information and reiterated the importance of student well-being.
